Gallery Closures
We are open Tuesday – Sunday, and Bank Holiday Mondays from 10:00am – 6:00pm.
The Cast Gallery (Gallery 14) will open on 1 October 2010
For the first time in the Ashmolean’s history the Cast Gallery, once a separate building, has been united with the Museum following a major refurbishment. Visitors will be able to enter the Cast Gallery from the ground floor through Rome 400 BC – AD 300 (Gallery 13).
Gallery Closures during the Transformation of the Egyptian Galleries Autumn 2010–Winter 2011
This autumn the Ashmolean will prepare for a major redevelopment of the Egyptian galleries. This exciting new project, led by Rick Mather Architects, will complete the Museum’s new Ancient World Floor, comprising galleries which span the world’s great ancient civilisations – ranging from Egypt and Nubia, Prehistoric Europe, the Ancient Near East and Classical Greece and Rome, to Early India, China and Japan. The project will involve the relocation of the Shop into a newly converted space next to the Café on the lower -ground floor. Starting in September 2010, some of the Egyptian galleries will begin to close to make way for the new displays. The galleries will be closed completely from 1 January 2011 until their reopening in late 2011.
Forthcoming gallery closures:
- September 2010:
- Partial closure of Gallery 26 (this gallery will be closed from Tues to Fri and open at the weekends)
- November 2010:
- Closure of Gallery 25
- January 2011:
- Closure of Gallery 23 & 24
